HDRI Browser – A Cinema 4D Plugin in progess

Hello and welcome.

A couple of months ago I started on creating my own 360° HDR images. I have made over 70 HDRIs so far. But there was always one thing

that really annoyed me when trying different HDRIs in Cinema. You always have to go to the material (or tag when you are using a different render engine)
and go to the luminance channel and change the image. It just takes ages to find the right HDRI for the scene.
And thats where I came up with the idea of an HDRI browser.

The Browser

After a few hours of coding, I came up with this first approach of the plugin. As you can see in the picture you have a list with previews of the HDRIs
and the name beneath them. If you have no Sky object selected and click on an HDRI it will ask you, to auto-generate a Sky with the current HDRI.
And if you want to change the HDRI, just click on the Sky object (select it in the OM) and then click on the HDRI in the browser you want to have.
That’s it. No more creating materials, search for the HDRI in a folder.
Currently the HDRIs are stored in the folder of the plugin. One thing that I want to add, is that you can choose a folder where your HDRIs are stored.

Message when no Sky object is selected

But I will have to see if that’s possible the way I want it to be.

In order for every HDRI to show up there has to be a .png preview file with the EXACT same name of the HDRI. If that’s not the case, either the plugin
wont show up, or it has a wrong preview.

Currently the plugin is able to change the HDRI of the normal Cinema 4D engine (that would be the material) but I also added support for Octane.

It works exactly the same as the Cinema 4D version. Just click on the Sky object that has the Octane Enviroment Tag attached, and click on an HDRI
the plugin will handle everything else.
